Paul Quarrington has written nine novels, including Whale Music (which won the Governor General's Award for Fiction), King Leary, Civilization and, most recently, Galveston, which was shortlisted for the prestigious Giller Prize. Quarrington has also written four books of non-fiction; The Boy on the Back of the Turtle, which describes a trip to the Galapagos Islands, was shortlisted for the Trillium Award.
Quarrington has written or co-written four produced screenplays: Perfectly Normal (Genie Award, best screenplay), Giant Steps, Whale Music and Camilla. He has made three short films: A Man's Life, starring veteran stage actor Diana LeBlanc, and won many honours, including a Golden Sheaf award for best comedy. His plays (including The Invention of Poetry and Dying Is Easy) have been produced across Canada.
Quarrington has written for television, serving as a writer and/or producer for Due South, Power Play, Tom Stone and Missing. He has also worked a great deal as a script editor (on such notable films as The Divine Ryans and Chicks With Sticks) and shares the story credit (with Paul Gross and John Krizanc) for the highly successful Men With Brooms.
Quarrington is also the singer/guitarist for the group "PorkBelly Futures." Their first CD, Way Past Midnight released by Judy Collins' record label, Wildflower, spent six months on the American Blues/Roots charts.
