Diane Flacks is well known in Toronto for her three solo shows: Myth Me, By A Thread (nominated for a Dora Award), and most recently Random Acts - called "virtuosic" by the Star, Globe, and CBC. She developed a one-hour special based on the material of Random Acts for CBC Television. Diane acted in and co-wrote The Broad Side, a six-part TV series produced by CBC television. She also wrote and starred in P.R. a sitcom for Sullivan Entertainment and the CBC. Diane co-wrote, co-produced, and played 15 characters in Behind the Scenes for CTV and The Comedy Channel.
The critically acclaimed hit play Sibs (co-written with Richard Greenblatt) was nominated for the Chalmers Playwrighting award, and published in Spring 2002 by Playwright's Canada Press. Diane starred in and collaborated on the script for Smudge (also Chalmers nominated), a haunting comedy about a woman who loses her sight, by Alex Bulmer. In addition to a stint in The Vagina Monologues, Diane appeared in an all-female Midsummer Night's Dream at Passe Murraille, and as a guest star on the Royal Canadian Air Farce. She also wrote for a sketch series for CBC called Jonathan Cross' Canada.
Diane is adapting Sibs for a CBC television movie and developing a new series for the CBC tentatively titled Greengrass and Hawkes, as well as pilots for CTV and the U.S. market. Diane has written for Kids In The Hall (Emmy, Gemini nominated), Dog Park (by Bruce McCulloch), and Minus Time with filmmaker Jeremy Podeswa. Among other projects, she has also written two Jest in Time TV specials for CBC, and The Cynthia Dale Special for CBC. Her play, Gravity Calling, was produced at the Tarragon and then subsequently at Yale. She appeared in New York City, at the prestigious Town Hall in Outrageous Comedy, a benefit hosted by comedienne Sandra Bernhard, and she hosted and programmed a tribute night to Lily Tomlin this fall as part of the Harbourfront World Leaders Festival.
As an actor she has appeared in films (The 391st, Dog Park, Brain Candy) and Canadian episodic TV series including Traders and Kids in the Hall, and in numerous roles in Canadian Theatres including The Anger in Ernest and Ernestine for Theatre Columbus, The Theory of Relatives (which she co-created) at the Tarragon, and The Serpent Woman for Theatre Smith Gilmour.
